‘Ban on schools running by trust in IIOJK is Modi govt’s educational terrorism’

Srinagar: Hurriyat leaders and organizations have strongly condemned the imposition of ban and termed the move by Hindutva government led by Narendra Modi on schools run by the Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT) in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Earlier, on 13th June 2022 Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) administration directed to ban on all schools run by Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT). The administration further directed officials of education department to seal these schools within 15 days, claiming that schools are affiliated with a banned organization Jamat-e-Islami (JI).

According to the details, the order also stated that all students studying in these institutions shall admit themselves to nearby govt schools for the current academic year.

In 1990, the then govt had banned FAT, when around 11,00 students were studying in the schools run by this trust; at that time the students faced enormous difficulties to pursue their education owing to under developed education infra-structure in IIOJK.

FAT officials said that they approached the court against the ban, which was overturned. Following the ban, the FAT handed over the management of the majority of its schools to Resident Welfare Associations and village committees, which over the years have increased to around 330 schools with around 75,000 students and over 5,000 teachers.

FAT chairman also said that Indian government order of ban was ‘unjustified’ clarifying that the trust isn’t an affiliate of Jama’t-e-Islami. The ban on schools is clear violation of the fundamental right of education of the Kashmiri students already deprived of the quality education opportunities due to Indian oppressive policies in IIOJK.

The Trust clarified that it is not affiliated to any religious organizations including the now banned Jamaat-e-Islami of the J&K and termed it a baseless allegation. Indian oppressive policies in IIOJK put career of thousands students on stake as government has announced an immediate ban on FAT running schools.

Also more than 10 thousand teachers who were working in theses school will be jobless now. Since 1990, these schools have played a huge role in imparting quality education & increasing literacy rate in Kashmir. Indian Hindutva fascist government orders to bans operation of academic activities in schools is clear violation of article 26 of 2948 UDHR and is considered as part of its anti-Kashmir policy.
