British MPs write to PM Johnson for release of Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik

London: Members of Parliament (MPs) in United Kingdom (UK) of Pakistani origin have written to Prime Minister Boris Johnson as part of their efforts to secure the release of Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik, who was given life sentence by an Indian court on 26 May 2022.

In their letter, MPs namely Khalid Mehmood, Tahir Ali, Imran Hussain and Muhammad Yasin have told the British Prime Minister that Yasin had been awarded life imprisonment in a false case that was politically motivated, and which went against the international laws governing human rights.

The MPs have put forward five demands to PM Johnson, including the release of Hurriyat leader and the annulment of India’s Public Safety Act. They have also appealed to the Prime Minister to put pressure on India to ensure peaceful solution of the Kashmir dispute, and also give access to detained Kashmiri leaders as well as ordinary citizens.

In their letter, they have urged the Premier that under no circumstances his government should allow Indian Prime Minister Modi to go ahead with his draconian rule in the occupied valley.

It is pertinent to mention that during the first five years of BJP/ RSS government led by PM Modi no militancy-related cases against him and his party were filed. Indian judicial system is being used as a state instrument to silence the voices of dissent in IIOJK.

It is a public knowledge that how Indian government in 1984 judicially murdered the JKLF founder Maqbool Bhat by sending him to the gallows. People in the IIOJK fear Malik is next in line to be “judicially murdered” by India’s right-wing government to further their political gains. Web Desk
