Case lodged against police constable, 3 others for raping Dalit woman in Haryana

Haryana: The Haryana Police has lodged a case against four men, including a police constable, for allegedly holding a Dalit woman captive for nine days and raping her, news agency PTI reported.

In her statement, the Dalit woman, who is in her late 20s, alleged that she knew the suspects who were from her village. On June 30, she was talking to one of the accused when two of his friends arrived in a car. They drove towards Ballabhgarh in Faridabad with her, where they confined her to a room and raped her repeatedly.

The woman, who is married, alleged that she was injected with sedatives and remained unconscious most of the time. The accused left her at the Ballabhgarh bus stand on July 8, following which she contacted her family and reached home. She filed a complaint with the police on July 10.

The police have registered a case under various provisions of the IPC, including rape, kidnapping, and relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The accused are yet to be arrested, PTI reported.

Meanwhile, a man from the woman’s village claimed that he was assaulted by some people for helping the woman file the police complaint. “During preliminary investigation, it was found that the incident is not related to the case in which the woman has lodged a complaint. However, further investigation is under progress,” PTI quoted a police official as saying. Web Desk
