Diplomatic storm over comments against the Prophet (PBUH) by India’s ruling party officials

New Delhi: An international diplomatic storm has engulfed BJP, following the sanctioning of two party spokespersons over insulting remarks the pair are reported to have made towards Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). General Secretariat of the OIC expresses its strong condemnation and denunciation of the recent insults issued by BJP official towards the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

OIC called upon India to ensure the safety, security and well-being of the Muslim community in India and to protect its rights, religious and cultural identity, dignity and places of worship. Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Indian ambassador to present an official note “expressing the disappointment of the State of Qatar and its total rejection and condemnation to the controversial remarks”.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Mohammed Al Ansari said, “The State of Qatar calls on the Indian government to immediately condemn these remarks and publicly apologize to all Muslims around the world”. Kuwait also summoned Indian ambassador and handed the ambassador a protest note in which Kuwait rejected and denounced the statements made by BJP official. Saudi Arabia condemned the remarks, describing BJP spokesperson’s comments as “insulting” and calling for “respect for beliefs and religions”. The controversy has raised the ire of social media users in Arab countries who have called for a boycott of Indian products, denounced the escalation of hatred against Islam and Muslims and accused India in promoting Islamophobia.

Pakistan has urged India to ensure that decisive and demonstrable action taken against those responsible for making the Islamophobic remarks. It urged the international community to take immediate cognizance of Islamophobia in India. Afghanistan has also strongly condemned derogatory words against Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) by an official of BJP. Afghan government’s spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid said, “Afghanistan strongly condemns the use of derogatory words against the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) by an official of the ruling party in India.”

He said: “We urge the Indian government not to allow such fanatics to insult the holy religion of Islam and provoke the feelings of Muslims.” BJP’s attempted clarification and belated and perfunctory disciplinary action against those individuals could not assuage the pain and anguish they caused to the Muslim world. The world must intervene to protect the Muslims in India from an impending genocide at the hands of Hindutva-inspired Hindu zealots, emboldened by the BJP-RSS dispensation at the helm. Web Desk
