Muzaffarabad: Arrangements are in place to celebrate the 75th founding day of the emergence of the independent government of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir on October 24 (today).
The Muslims of Azad Jammu and Kashmir started a liberation against India in 1947. As a result of this war, Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir was established on 24th October 1947 in the liberated area which is about 5,000 square miles out of total area of 84,471 square miles. AJK territory was liberated by the sons of the soil from the despotic Dogra rulers.
Area wise, the State of Jammu and Kashmir was the largest state in the sub-continent of Indo-Pak among the 562 princely states of the Sub-continent at the time of its division, and still claims the same status. Its area is almost equal to the total area of Belgium, Denmark, Holland, Austria and Albania, all put together, although it is slightly smaller than Great Britain.
Every year, the day is observed to mark the formation of the first revolutionary government set up under the leadership of ‘Ghazi-e- Millat’ Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan on this day 75 years ago. The foundation day of Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) government is being celebrated on 24 October with zeal and national fervor. Ex-President AJK Sardar Masood said, 24 Oct is an important milestone in the history of Kashmiri liberation struggle, the “Ghazi-e- Millat” not only participated in the liberation struggle of Kashmir physically but also chaired the historic meeting that adopted the resolution of Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan in 1947 at his Srinagar residence.
People and Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir will relentlessly continue struggle for which the government in the base camp was established.
