New Delhi: After questioning Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, the Enforcement Directorate is conducting searches at the official premises of the National Herald.
ED raids underway at 4th floor in Herald House. This is where the publication office of National Herald is located. ED officials entered around 10 am this morning and are still present inside the office.
ED raids are underway at multiple locations in Delhi pertaining to the alleged National Herald money laundering case.
According to official sources, ED is conducting raids at 12 locations including office of Congress-owned National Herald newspaper in Delhi in money laundering case. The probe agency might also raid some of the locations in Kolkata.
The ED questioned Congress President Sonia Gandhi last week (July 27) for over three hours for the third time in the National Herald newspaper-linked money laundering case.
The questioning pertains to the charge of alleged financial irregularities in the Congress-promoted Young Indian Private Limited, which owns the National Herald newspaper.
Congress leaders Pawan Bansal and Mallikarjun Kharge have been questioned by the ED in the past.
Rahul Gandhi was also questioned by the ED in this case in June in sessions that clocked over 50 hours over five days.
The move to question the Gandhis was initiated after the ED late last year registered a fresh case under the criminal provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
This was after a trial court here took cognisance of an income tax department probe against Young Indian based on a private criminal complaint by BJP MP Subramanian Swamy in 2013.
Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are among the promoters and majority shareholders in Young Indian. Like her son, the Congress president too has a 38% shareholding.
