Uttar Pradesh: Muslims are facing wide discrimination, and prejudice under Narendra Modi-led government in India and now another historical mosque has been bulldozed in northern state of Uttar Pradesh.
The latest incident occurred on the heels of a campaign launched by Hindutva inspired ruling party to claim Mughal-era monuments and to remove historic mosques, to gag Muslims in a desperate attempt to claim the next general elections scheduled in 2024.
Clips doing rounds on the internet show Shahi Masjid in Handia, Allahabad being bulldozed by the public works department under the pretext of widening the highway.
Non-partisan, Saffron Diaries noted that according to the 42nd Amendment of India’s constitution, “India is a secular nation”.
However, the state bulldozed a historical mosque. Interestingly, the Mosque’s Imam, Md Babul Hussain said that the matter was listed in the lower court for 16 January. But it was razed down before it could reach the court.
An anti-Muslim narrative is spreading in India due to a dedicated effort by PM Modi’s BJP government. This is evidenced by the demolition of nearly 500 mosques and shrines in the Indian state of Gujarat with impunity, according to a report of the People’s Union for Human Rights.
Amit Shah, has repeatedly claimed in public rallies that Muslims in India have committed “land jihad” by occupying spaces meant for Hindus and that the BJP will enact laws to put an end to this land jihad.

India has entered into a very critical phase of communal strife after the Hindu zealots led by RSS inspired BJP leaders openly called for genocide of the Muslims and persecution of other minorities through tacit extreme ploys.
Professor of human rights law at American University in Washington, DC. Juan E Mendez, has termed the communal situation in India, “dangerous” and “deeply disturbing”.
Unfortunately, India has become a land of Hindus, where minorities seems to have been completely cornered and ghettoized. Intellectuals around the globe would be guilty of letting Indian minorities suffer in the BJP’s created hell, if they continue to buy Indian nationalist media’s narrative of a rising and shining India.
Journalists covering recent development in India blasted authorities, saying that the mosque has been demolished by the Hindutva regime under the pretext of widening the road.
Amid unprecedented harassment of Muslims, the ruling BJP and other parties are polarising voters with an anti-Muslim narrative to remain in power after the next elections.
