China continues to provide aid to earthquake hit Afghanistan

Beijing: The Chinese government has provided RMB 50 million to quake-hit Afghanistan and continues to provide assistance to the land-locked country after the devastating June earthquake.

The first batch of aid from China arrived on June 27, which was followed by two large plane loads the day after. More Chinese flights continue ferrying earthquake relief materials to Kabul airport.

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had sent a message of condolence to Acting Foreign Minister of the Afghan Interim Government Amir Khan Muttaqi and had also held a phone conversation with him, stressing that China is willing to provide emergency humanitarian assistance according to the needs of Afghanistan.

Beijing is also planning to provide another batch of emergency humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and is also speeding up the distribution of the previously pledged food aid to Afghanistan.

The country has also proposed to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Afghanistan in disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster monitoring and early warning in the future.

The people and the government of Afghanistan have praised the relief efforts by China. The government also conveyed its sincere thanks and said all assistance would be distributed in a timely manner.

An official responsible for disaster management and humanitarian affairs in the earthquake-hit province of Khost said that China provided the most urgently needed materials for the people in the struck areas  at the critical moment.

Many Afghan netizens have also expressed that China offers help to Afghans in need while the western countries disappoint them with indifference. China will continue with its assistance for disaster relief and post-disaster reconstruction within Afghanistan and is willing to provide more assistance according to the needs of the country.
