Washington: Kashmiri global diaspora will observe the Right to Self-Determination Day on January 5, in memory of the adoption of the UN Security Council resolution passed on that day in 1949 giving the people of Jammu and Kashmir the right to self-determination.

Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, Chairman, ‘World Forum for Peace and Justice’ in a statement issued in Washington said that Kashmiri diaspora will hold public rallies, seminars and processions in different capitols of the world.

In Washington and New York, ‘World Kashmir Awareness Forum’ has arranged digital trucks to highlight not only the demand of the people of Kashmir to right to self-determination but also to bring to light the nature of atrocities committed by the Indian troops in Indian Administered Kashmir.

The digital trucks will move around the cities of Washington and New York between 10 am to 6 pm with the message like, “Stop India’s military and demographic terrorism in Kashmir.” Digital trucks New York

Dr Fai added that the Kashmir conflict has become the cause of nuclear tension in the region of South Asia. Without a just and lasting peace in Kashmir that vindicates self-determination, trying to reduce missile and nuclear arsenals; and bring normalcy in the region of South Asia will be an exercise in futility, he said. Dr Fai here quoted American Ambassador to the United Nations, Adlai Stevenson to have said on June 15, 1962, “The larger interest of South Asia’s peace and security require, it seems to us, the prompt settlement of the Kashmir dispute.”
