New Delhi: Indian Congress said the Constitution was facing a fundamental and existential crisis and blamed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for creating that crisis.
On Constitution Day, Indian Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge he called them out for ‘curtailing freedom’. He feared that ‘Indian Constitution’ which stood it is time for 70 years was now facing a ‘fundamental crisis’. In a Constitution Day statement titled, “The Looming Crisis of the Indian Constitution”, Kharge said the only way to control this “new hegemonic disposition” is to counter it with ideological and moral strength.
Kharge while lambasting RSS for promoting its propaganda said, “The government completely has surrendered itself and its institutions to the diktats of RSS, an organization that pushes hateful propaganda under the garb of social service.
In fact, it is no longer incorrect to use the terms RSS and BJP interchangeably.” While remembering father of the Indian Constitution B.R Ambedkar, Kharge anointed that the former would be terming today’s situation as “Lawless law, riddled with never-ending infringements on fundamental rights, systematically engineered by the BJP-RSS government since they have been in power.”
Congress President said, “Mysterious deaths of judges, their urgent transfer before they were to pronounce judgments or their hounding when they have stood against the government has gone unnoticed with the people.” Kharge also raised concern over colleges and universities being used as a medium to propagate the biased agenda and shun critical views.
“History books are being rewritten to suit and perpetuate the BJP’s hateful agenda. There is moral surveillance in all public arenas. Privacy is being banished”. He claimed, “Attacks against SC/STs, the poor, and OBCs are being celebrated.
Women are being blamed for atrocities inflicted on them and criminals close to the ruling party are being shielded.” He said, RSS had used BJP as a political vehicle on every opportunity to curtail freedoms, enshrined in the Constitution. “Illegal has become legal because the fringe has now become mainstream.
The foremost tangible spirit of our democracy is being distorted and disrespected by people who are using it as a means to push a completely contrasting agenda.” Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that ideological fountainheads of the BJP had nothing to do in making the Constitution. “In fact the RSS was opposed to the Constitution of India. Desperately wanting to show that he respects the Constitution- while he subverts it daily in letter and spirit.”
