Georgetown: In Aug 2021 Genocide Watch issued emergency alert to India for its perpetrated genocide against Indian Muslims. On 3rd November 2022, Georgetown University published a report titled “Is a Genocide of Muslims underway in India?” Report examines sit of Muslims in India utilizing Gregory Stanton’s 10 stages of genocide.
According to the report:-
- India is at stage 8 of genocide (persecution) with indicators of stage 9 (extermination) becoming more & more visible.
- More than 200 million Indian Muslims seen as an impediment of Hindu nationalist’s goal of remarking India as Hind-only nation.
- BJP’s goal is to subordinate/ dehumanize Indian Muslims.
- Atmosphere of fear for Muslims; daily episodes of harassment, mob assaults, destruction of property & lynching since BJP came to power.
- Hindu nationalism dominates India; hatred, discrimination & exclusionary rhetoric to exclude non-Hindu communities from country’s civil/ public sphere.
- Clamp down on free speech-political dissent.
- Discriminatory legislation violates rights of Muslims; Hijab ban to inter-faith marriages, Muslims navigating an environment; relegated to 2nd-class citizenship.
- Impunity for hate crimes; public campaigns to destroy mosques, homes & businesses with LEAs & judiciary green-lighting these acts.
- Videos of BJP politicians/ right-wing Hindu religious leaders calling on Hindus to bear arms & to kill Muslims become Normal feature in India.
