Human rights violation: 22-year-old youth killed in Indian police custody in Tamil Nadu

Kanyakumari: The family of a 22-year-old youth has said that he died of police custodial torture in Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The family of the deceased Ajith in a complaint seeking an investigation has said Ajith was killed in custodial torture after he was arrested for assaulting his neighbour over an issue.

On June 23, Ajith had gone to the Kulasekaram police station in Kanyakumari District to sign the police register and a part of his routine for conditional bail. But he did not return home, the family of the victim said.

“Police claimed that their son had consumed poison and subsequently died in the hospital,” the kin of the victim said. However, Ajith’s father, Sasikumar, said that the Kulasekaram police were responsible for their son’s death. Web Desk
