In India, women have more sexual partners than men: survey

New Delhi: In 11 states and union territories of India, women have more sexual partners than men, showed the National Family Health Survey (NFHS).

India Today reported that the survey covered 707 districts across India and over 100,000 women and 100,000 men participated in it.

The NFHS said that women had more physical partners in the states of Assam, Chandigarh, Haryana, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu.

Among these, Rajasthan was found to top the list with women, on average, having 3.1 sexual partners.

However, the NFHS data showed that more men (3.6%) than women (0.5%) had sexual relations outside marriage.

The survey was mainly conducted to study risky and incorrect sexual practices that can put people at greater risk of HIV/AIDS.

The survey report included demographics like the socioeconomic conditions of the participants for better policy formation.
