Indian troops continue to commit war crimes in IIOJK: Report

Srinagar: International Day of Non-Violence is being observed on 02 October, on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence.

Whereas, peace is something quite unknown to the people in IIOJK who are facing the worst state terrorism by India in the territory for the past several decades.

Modi-led India has stepped up its state terrorism in occupied Jammu and Kashmir particularly after 5 August 2019 when the regime revoked Kashmir’s special status, and placed the territory under an undeclared martial law. Modi regime’s actions in IIOJK can well be defined as genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes as per international law.

Recently, a UK-based law firm Stoke White Investigation (SWI) launched a report highlighting India’s subversive activities of suppressing media in IIOJK. SWI has documented more than 2,000 cases – all of serious nature.

The most glaring ones included 450 cases of torture, 1500 victims of pellet gun shootings, 100 enforced disappearances and 30 accounts of sexual violence. Last year, Pakistan had shared a dossier with the international community to expose the Indian government, which had deployed 900,000 soldiers in the occupied territory to oppress its residents.

The dossier listed “solid proof” of extrajudicial killings through fake encounters and false flag operations by the Indian army. The document also underscored how the Indian government had linked Kashmir’s legitimate struggle for independence to terrorism.

Since 1989, over 96,000 extra-judicial killings, around 165,000 cases of arbitrary arrests and torture, over 25,000 pellet gun injuries were recorded. Moreover, over 11,000 women raped, around 23,000 widowed and over 108,000 children orphaned, 8,652 unmarked mass graves that have been identified in 89 villages of IIOJK.

Since 2014, more than 30,000 people have faced 31 forms of torture, including water-boarding; forced starvation, sleep deprivation and burning of bodies. The world must force India to comply with its international and moral obligations and allow Kashmiris to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination as enshrined in international law and the relevant UNSC resolutions. International experts on genocidal violence have warned that India is preparing for a “genocide” of the 200 million Muslims in India.

India is trying to establish linkages of Kashmiri freedom movement with international terrorism in order to malign the freedom struggle and to justify its own crimes as counter-terrorist operations.
