India’s attempt for UNSC permanent membership thwarted again

India’s bid for UNSC permanent membership foiled again

New York: A bid of India to get permanent membership of the United National Security Council (UNSC) was foiled again after it was opposed by Uniting for Consensus (UfC) countries, including Pakistan.

The UN General Assembly, earlier this week, adopted, by consensus, an oral decision by which it decided to “immediately” continue intergovernmental negotiations on reform of the Security Council.

India’s attempt for UNSC permanent membership thwarted, India getting permanent UNSC member ship will be an existential threat for Pakistan, keeping in view its inimical stance against us and historical efforts to malign, isolate and disintegrate Pakistan.

According to Oppenheim’s International Laws, United Nations, Permanent membership in the Security Council was granted to 5 states based on their importance in the aftermath of WWII.

Often referred as ‘The P5’, the permanent members of the Security Council have veto power to overrule any decision. India has been aggressively pursuing P-5 membership.

The intensity of these efforts have now seen a substantial rise as recently Ukraine President Zelensky along with other western countries have supported Indian stance during an Inter-Governmental Negotiation (IGN) process of the UN.

India is also working alongside other reform-oriented countries through its membership in G-4 (India, Japan, Brazil and Germany) and the L69 Group (a cross regional group of countries from Asia, Africa and Latin America). Indian gross human rights violations in Indian Administered Kashmir, Dalits, Sikhs, Christians and Muslim measures warrant that the international community especially P5 should ask India to improve its HR record before pursuing permanent membership (USCIRF Report Nov 2022, Indian UPR Review in Nov 2022, Amnesty Intl Report, HRW Report be taken as reference).

India’s attempt for UNSC permanent membership thwarted, India is a violator of UNSC Resolutions on Indian Administered Kashmir and therefore stands ineligible for UNSC permanent membership. India has unresolved border disputes with countries neighbors (Pakistan, China, Nepal and Bhutan).

And India harbours expansionist designs especially against Pakistan and Bangladesh (Concept of Maha Bharat from Afghanistan to Myanmar be used as supporting argument).

Indian domestic environment especially its cultural/social/religious values are against Western liberal values and Hindutva driven extremist don’t accept any other community inside India less Hindus.

Indian perpetual interference in its neighboring countries internal matters & its jingoistic agenda negates its candidature for inclusion in UNSC permanent seat. The narrative of shining and developed India has proved to be a charade and is actually an economic bubble restricted to Indian elites only.

The demand for its inclusion has no convincing substance and mainly stems from international political maneuvering to support India as a strong adversary against China in the region.

Indian inclusion in UNSC permanent membership may culminate into more anti-Pakistan machinations and India may further attempt to strangle Pakistan. By giving more power in the hands of Hindu Fascist’s is tantamount to pushing world to a perpetual state of violence and Hindutva induced fascism.
