International Day of Democracy: Indian atrocities in Kashmir show its a fake democracy

Srinagar: The International Day of Democracy is celebrated all around the globe on 15th September every year.

India has proved itself a fake democracy by crushing Kashmiris’ right of self-determination. In IIOJK, unabated Indian state terrorism during last thirty-two years has forced over forty thousand Kashmiris to live outside the territory as refugees.

Due to Indian atrocities against struggling Kashmiris since 1947, over 2.5 million people had taken refuge in AJK, Pakistan and in UK.  India continued to brutalize the defenceless Kashmiris in IIOJK through extra-judicial killings in fake “encounters” and staged “cordon-and-search” operations, custodial torture and imposition of collective punishment. Since 1989, more than 95,000 people killed, 22,950 women widowed and more than 11,000 are molested by brutal Indian forces.

These atrocities cannot break the will of the Kashmiri people in their just struggle for the inalienable right to self-determination as enshrined in the relevant UNSC Resolutions. The issue of Kashmir and Junagadh both share the same fate as Kashmir, as only the people of these states have the right to decide their political future.

India is using rape and molestation of women as a weapon of war to suppress Kashmiris’ struggle for securing their inalienable right to self-determination. Hate crimes and violence against Muslims have steadily increased in India since PM  Modi assumed office. India held the territory illegally and in violation of international law and the Indian Independence Act. Muslim majority of IIOJK has been facing threat to its existence and religious identity due to Indian occupation of J&K for the past over seven decades.

RSS-backed Modi regime is furthering its Hindutva ideology to convert Muslim majority in Kashmir into a minority and convert territory into a Hindu state. Arbitrary detentions, extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances are part of what appears to be an ongoing pattern of serious violations of human rights by Indian forces in IIOJK.
