Justice continues to elude victims of Indian state terrorism in IIOJK

Srinagar: On the observance of International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism on 21 August, 2022, justice continues to elude the victims of Indian state terrorism in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to statement by UN, the day is meant to allow victims of terrorism to have their needs supported and their rights upheld. Reports of lynching and physical bashing of unarmed Muslims by armed and organized RSS extremists have become a usual routine in IIOJK.

They are subjected to extreme oppression and tyranny at the hands of Indian authorities. Women, men and children living in IIOJK have “faced pellet guns, sexual assault, electrocution, physical and mental torture” at the hands of Indian forces.

The genocide in IIOJK continues unabated leaving a blotch on India’s face of a ‘so-called champion of human rights’. Anti-Muslims hatred has touched new heights in IIOJK.

In its annual report, Human Rights Watch (HRW) exposes that Indian authorities are restricting free expression, peaceful assembly and other basic rights in Jammu and Kashmir after revoking the region’s special autonomous status. International community should prosecute Indian civil and military personnel for “worst form of state terrorism and serious crimes against humanity” in IIOJK. More than 609 innocent Kashmiris have been martyred by the Indian occupation forces in staged encounters, since India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019.

The intensified killing spree in IIOJK is a clear manifestation of India using state-terrorism as policy tool against the Kashmiris. Successive Indian governments have unleashed a hell of deprivations, siege, torture, humiliation, mass and gang rapes, forced disappearances and extra-judicial killing of Muslim Kashmiri youth while in custody. The Muslim world, particularly member states of OIC should raise their voice against the worst ever human rights violations in IOJK and consider sanctions against India.

India is actively engaged in gerrymandering to reduce Muslim representation in the state legislature of IIOJK. India in violation of international laws had been practically implementing its nefarious agenda of changing the Muslim majority status of J&K. The international rights bodies must come forward to save the Kashmiri Muslims from Hindu fascism.
