Kashmiris to observe October 27 as Black Day

Srinagar: Kashmiris living in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ) announced to observe October 27 as Black Day against illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by India.

It is necessary to mention here that the population of Jammu and Kashmir was overwhelmingly Muslim and wanted to join Pakistan. On 19 July 1947, genuine representatives of the Kashmiris unanimously passed the resolution of Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan during a meeting of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference at the residence of Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan in Aabi Guzar area of Srinagar.

The historic resolution called for the accession of the state of Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan in view of its existing religious, geographical, cultural and economic proximity to Pakistan and aspirations of millions of Kashmiri Muslims. In a totally unprovoked move India landed its army in Srinagar on 27 October 1947, based on the so-called accession deal with Maharaja Hari Singh.

The day will be commemorated as Black Day in Kashmir because this day marks the genesis of a long and dark era of repression by Indian occupational forces. To check the unlawful intervention and advance of Indian army, Pakistan army also moved to AJK and a war was started between Pakistan and India. In December 1947, Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru approached the UN Security Council (UNSC) to seek its help to settle the Kashmir dispute.

The UNSC passed resolutions in 1948/49, which asked for the cease-fire and holding a plebiscite under its supervision, to enable the people of Jammu and Kashmir to decide through their vote whether they wanted the state to join Pakistan or India. India has not conducted plebiscite till today and disregarded the UNSC resolutions on Kashmir. Instead, it has adopted brutal tactics of suppression, state-sponsored terrorism, and altering the demography of IIOJK, to deny Kashmiris their right to self-determination.
