Nawab of Junagarh Muhammad Jahangir Khanji passes away

KARACHI: Nawab of Junagarh, Muhammad Jahangir Khanji passed away in Karachi, today.

Nawab Muhammad Jahangir Khanji was admitted to a private hospital after being diagnosed with cancer where he breathed his last.

The funeral prayer of the Nawab will be offered tomorrow (Friday) at Junagadh House in Karachi after Juma prayers. The deceased has left his mother, widow, and two children to mourn his death.

Political and social figures have expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Nawab of Junagarh. The Nawab dedicated his entire life to the independence of the Junagadh state and its accession to Pakistan. He continued his struggle to achieve this goal till his last breath. The death of Nawab Muhammad Jahangir is a great loss to Pakistan and his family.

Nawab of Junagarh refers to the now defunct ex-lineage of rulers of the princely Junagarh State in British Raj, nowadays Junagarh district in the Indian state of Gujarat.

It is worth mentioning here that Junagarh was a princely state and at the time of partition in 1947 over 550 states were given the choice to join either Pakistan or India.

The Nawab of Junagarh had decided to join Pakistan. Nawab Mahabat Khan, the then governor of Junagarh and grandfather of Nawab Muhammad Jahangir Khanji, had signed an agreement of accession to Pakistan on 15 September in 1947.

However, India landed its troops and forcibly occupied the Muslim-ruled State on November 09, 1947 in sheer violation of international law.
