Nepal hands over humanitarian assistance to Pakistan

Kathmandu: Nepal has handed over humanitarian assistance of over 22 tonnes to Pakistan to help it meet the challenges posed by the recent natural disaster.

Pakistan has been severely affected by floods which have killed nearly 1,400 people and displaced more than a million this monsoon.

Facing natural disasters like these heavy floods is not possible for any single country to overcome. It is the collective responsibility of whole humankind to fight against natural disasters. As a gesture of good will, Nepal government has decided to provide relief materials of worth Rs 20 million to flood-ravaged Pakistan.

Nepal has dispatched more than 22 tonnes of humanitarian emergency relief materials to Pakistan which has been devastated by monsoon-induced flash floods and inundation recently.  The materials included essential medicines, food, and clothes.

Nepal Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Sewa Lamsal said that the government was providing relief materials in view of the huge loss of lives and properties in the floods and inundation.

The relief materials would be provided as per the decision of the Council of Ministers on 06 September.  Nepal government has expressed deep sorrow and sympathy over the loss of lives and properties caused by the floods, the home ministry said in a statement.

The government has extended condolences to those who perished in the floods and has wished for speedy recovery of the injured. Pakistan has so far received ninety-five flights from friendly countries and international organizations carrying relief goods for flood victims. Web Desk
