Pakistani, Indian couple goes into hiding after threats from religious zealots

NEW DELHI: A Pakistani woman and her Indian husband have gone into hiding after threats from religious zealots, police said on Tuesday.

Pakistani Seema Haider who married Sachin Meena after converting to Hinduism have reportedly been missing from their Greater Noida home near capital Delhi.

Seema met Sachin while playing online game PUBG and illegally entered India via Nepal. She was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh (UP) police for entering India illegally, but later she was released on bail.

Now they are missing from their house.

Last week, India Today reported that a senior police officer expressed concerns about potential threats to Seema after she revealed her conversion from Islam to Hinduism.

The official said that though there had been no formal request from Seema or Sachin for security, police were maintaining constant surveillance on their house.

Police officers, both in uniform and plain clothes, were deployed around the house in Rabupura.

It is learnt that the central government may not repatriate Seema to Pakistan at this time. The final decision on her future lies with the Ministry of External Affairs and the central government.
