On September 30, 1947, Pakistan officially joined the United Nations (UN) just over a month after it came into existence and attaches great importance to international cooperation through this organisation.

UN Day is celebrated every year on 24th October. This day offers the opportunity to amplify its common agenda and reaffirm the purposes and principles of UN Charter that have guided the world body for the past 77 years.

Marking UN Day, Pakistan renewed its pledge to continue to press for the implementation of Security Council resolutions, which call for a plebiscite to enable Kashmiri people to exercise their right to self-determination.

Self-determination is one of the fundamental rights codified in all major human rights instruments as well as the United Nations Charter. The denial of this right and subjugation of Kashmiris in IIOJK is negation of human dignity. India must be urged to allow UN fact finding mission IIOJK to investigate the reports of grave human rights violations.

Since its illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019, India has been relentlessly pursuing further consolidation of its illegal military occupation, including through land confiscation, influx of non-Kashmiris and creation of alien settlements in IIOJK in flagrant violation of international law especially the UN Charter, relevant UNSC resolutions and the Fourth Geneva Convention

193 UN’s member states must place their faith in the Charter’s principles and purposes, which remain immutable and relevant to address the current global and regional challenges confronting the international community. Pakistan is proud of its collaboration with the United Nations, spread over more than seven decades.

Pakistan played a key role in facilitating the evacuation and relocation of diplomatic missions, international organizations including UN agencies and entities, and others from Afghanistan.

Pakistan continues to support the UN in the delivery and transit of humanitarian supplies to the Afghan people. As one of the largest and most consistent Troop Contributing Country, Pakistan has contributed 200,000 peacekeepers to 46 Peacekeeping Missions around the world.

Notably, Pakistan also hosts one of the oldest peacekeeping Missions — the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP).

It is pertinent to mention here that during the last seven decades, three-generations of Kashmiris have rendered tremendous sacrifices for their just struggle, yet their human dignity is being violated on daily basis in IIOJK.
