All is not well in Indian Administered Kashmir

The Indian government on 12th February sealed 45 shops in Banihal and most of them were either pharmacies or diagnostic centers. All the shops were linked directly or indirectly with the health sector.

The punitive action was taken on the pretext that the market (knows as hospital gali) existed on the state land in. Indian authorities have also demolished two shop located in the same lane.

Local resident said the decision will seriously impact healthcare sectors and will result in jobless of around 400 peoples. One reports said some of the facilities that were being provided by these shops are missing in the hospital.

Indian parliamentarians are raising questions about validity of Modi/ BJP government’s claims to normalcy having been restored on booming tourism, the population moves around fairly freely and considerable reduction in security troops.

Important secular leaders like former minister Mani Shankar Aiyar are of strong opinion that in India occupied Kashmir all is not well and things are simmering below the surfaces and resentment / anger among the masses is gradually growing.

The Indian grave human rights abuses and illegal actions like abrogation of 370 & 35-A has infused hatred and antagonism in the Kashmir who have rejected the perception of normalcy.

Ordinary Kashmiri staunchly believe that Indian occupational government has systematically robbed them their identity and dignity.

The pervasive sense of having been humiliated and disempowered; the denial of democracy and human rights, and solutions being illegally thrust without consultation, whether it is questions like Articles 370 and 35A  or economic strangulation has escalated manifolds.

The psychological distancing is a natural outcome to the Indian authority’s government’s unsubtle attempts at diluting the specific, separate identity of Kashmiris that was critical to the people of Indian Administered Kashmir.

The oppressive measures of occupational government has strengthen pro-Pakistan sentiment spreading even among schoolchildren. The disillusionment with BJP rule is not confined to the valley but stretches to Jammu and even Ladakh, the wide scale anti-government rallies and protests bear the testimony to the fact.

Moreover, a locality in Jammu city, with the largest concentration of Muslims is being targeted with the bulldozers for encroachment, 20,000 protesters are on the streets.

The ground situation of the UN declared disputed territory calls for possible diplomatic measures by international organizations for immediate action and pressurize India to abide by its international commitments.
