Analysts hope PM’s visit will further cement Pak, China relations

Islamabad: Mushtaq Ahmed Mehar (Former Ambassador): China-Pakistan friendship spans into diverse areas. The Prime Minister is visiting China on the invitation of the Chinese leadership. China is emerging as a global economic power and its strong relations with Pakistan are important.

The Prime Minister while visiting China will have many things in mind, including strengthening bilateral relations, as we respect Chinese efforts and struggle for economic development. Pakistan always voluntarily participated in all international events hosted by China. The in person presence of Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Beijing Olympics ceremony would garner international attention.

The important regional and global issues will be discussed between Pakistan and Chinese officials during the visit. More importantly, there is a need for political understanding between the two countries as certain elements have been trying to create misunderstanding between China and Pakistan. The Prime Minister will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including members of cabinet and senior government officials. The issues related to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor project will also be discussed and the main focus will be on the expansion of this mega project. Prime Minister will also hold important meetings with the world leaders visiting China.

Dr. A. Z.  Hilali (IR Expert): Pak-China relations are outstanding and remarkable as both the countries have good understanding on global and regional issues. The Prime Minister’s visit to China would have positive impact on further strengthening the bilateral relations. The visit will reinforce the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between our two countries. China has always supported Pakistan on important regional issues, including the Kashmir dispute. The point of focus of the meetings of the Prime Minister and Chinese leadership will be the China Pakistan Economic Corridor project and they will have a wide-ranging exchange of views on major regional and international issues. It is imperative to ensure that CPEC projects are optimally utilized. So, there is a need for enlarging its scope to neighboring countries, particularly Afghanistan.

Brig. (Retd.) Said Nazir (Defense Analyst): Pak-China friendship is higher than the mountains, deeper than the oceans. The Prime Minister is going to visit China and will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including members of the cabinet and senior government officials. He will attend the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games.

Time has proved that China is the most trusted, tested, and real and strong friend of Pakistan. China Pakistan Economic Corridor is the flagship project of China’s Belt and Road initiative. It is a practical proof of the same friendship and full confidence that will strengthen Pakistan’s economic, communications, defence, energy, infrastructure, and agriculture sectors. China has always spoken of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination with courage and boldness and the Kashmiri people consider Beijing as their shelter for resolving the Kashmir issue. Both Pakistan and China have the same opinions on regional and global issues. Pakistan also became a permanent member of the SCO because of China’s support. Web Desk
