COVID-19: Vaccine shortage hits Kashmir valley amid rising cases

Srinagar: As the whole country grapples with an increase in COVID-positive cases, Jammu and Kashmir is also witnessing a huge increase in COVID-related cases as well as deaths. And the government has said that to defeat this deadly second wave, vaccination is the only way out.

However, the Kashmir Valley faces a huge vaccine shortage. According to a government statement, not a single dose of the vaccine has been given to people in the past 5 days. J & K’s media bulletin clearly shows that in the ten districts of the Kashmir Valley, no dose of vaccine was administered to a citizen.

As of Sunday, all vaccination centers in Kashmir recorded no vaccinations. Official data released the evening showed zero across all vaccination categories in the valley, data for the Jammu region, however, showed around 9,000 vaccinations administered.

Amarjit Kaur and his father have been coming to the vaccination center every day for 5 days, but they are sent away because the vaccination center does not have vaccines.

“I’ve been coming here for almost a week and we haven’t been given a dose, my dad is over 50 and he hasn’t had his first dose yet. They told us every day to come after a few days. My dad is a daily wage worker and he has to go to work so we need him to be vaccinated for sure. They don’t vaccinate people over 45, my luck is very dark, “said Amarjit Kaur, resident. local.

The daughter-father duo is not the only one who had to return disappointed from the vaccination center. The inhabitants of the ten districts of the Kashmir Valley face the same problem. From daily bets to government workers, everyone is waiting for vaccines to arrive so they can receive their vaccine.

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha has set a 10-day deadline to reach the goal of 100% immunization of those 45 and over with the first dose. Many question, however, that this will only be possible if an adequate number of vaccines are kept available in J&K. The Bharat News
