Kanpur: A Dalit youth was pulled by hair, kicked and brutally beaten with sticks in public by the family members of his girlfriend in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh. The video of the incident went viral on social media and prompted the police to take action.
The victim, Sarvan went to meet his girlfriend who used to live in Kamalpur village under Akbarpur Police Station. When the girl’s family spotted him, they pulled him by his hair, tied him to a pole and started beating him on his private parts. They later threw him out of the village.
Akbarpur Police Station Inspector Tulsiram said the boy didn’t register a complaint himself but when the video of the incident went viral, the police called him to the station and filed an FIR based on his statement.
The girl’s father, Sanjay Pal, and other family members have been booked under the SC/ST Act. Additional SP Ghanshyam Chaurasia said the police have arrested one accused so far and the search is on for the rest. India Today
