Today is the 29th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition by BJP-RSS led Hindu mob with tacit approval of the then-Congress government in 1992 exposing India’s extremist face to the world. The 16th century Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was reduced to rubble by extremist Hindus on December 6, 1992.
In an episode of unabashed ugliness, a frenzied mob of thousands of Hindu extremists stormed the 16th century Masjid and reduced it to rubble. Indian Supreme Court ruled that a temple would be built on the site of the razed Masjid. The verdict has emboldened the foot soldiers of Hindutva and sent a message to India’s minorities particularly its Muslims that religious triumphalism and violence tactics by the majority are condoned in modern India.
Fascist Modi has made India an unsafe place for Muslims and other minorities despite the fact that the country is home to some 200 million Muslims, one of the world’s largest Muslim populations but a minority in the predominately Hindu country. Religious freedom in India has taken a drastic turn downward in Modi’s India as the BJP-led Indian regime is relentlessly implementing RSS ideology against minorities in India.
What is more agonizing than the demolition of the Babri Masjid itself is the biased role of the Indian top judiciary, which in November 2019 had allowed the Hindus to construct a temple at the site of the historic Masjid. While announcing the verdict, Indian Supreme Court gave priority to Hindutva ideology. Not only this, the top Indian court also acquitted BJP veterans like L.K. Advani involved in demolition of Babri Masjid.
According to a report Indian top court’s biased verdict has attested to Hinduization of India, which is becoming increasingly intolerable for Muslims in the country. Ayodhya verdict took precedence over all principles of justice and international norms.
Ironically, the former top court judge, Chief Justice Gogoi was rewarded for pronouncing verdict in Babri Masjid case that was in line with a key ideological commitment of BJP. He was picked for Rajya Sabha by BJP-led Indian govt after ruling in favor of Hindus in the Babri Masjid case.
In India, particularly under Modi, the KMS report said, religious sites of Muslims are vandalized by Hindutva forces with impunity. RSS-backed BJP has marked thousands of mosques for demolition and to build temples in their place in India. Even Muslim names of institutions, places and highways are being rechristened to Hindu names. The situation has turned so ugly for Muslims that even animals have more rights than Muslims in India. They are tortured and killed in broad daylight on the pretext of eating beef and transporting cattle.
The fact is the RSS-inspired BJP govt is planning ethnic cleansing of Muslims, which needs urgent attention by the global community there has already been a warning of possible genocide of Muslims in India and illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
