Gaw Kadal anniversary being observed in Srinagar

Srinagar: Complete shutdown marked by strict restrictions was being observed in several areas of Srinagar on Friday on the 32nd martyrdom anniversary of Gaw Kadal massacre.

On 21 January, 1990 Indian troops had martyred more than 50 innocent people and injured more than hundreds of people in Gaw Kadal, Srinagar. Brutal Indian occupied forces had opened indiscriminate fire on peaceful demonstrators who were protesting against the molestation of several women by Indian troops on previous night.

Indian troops in their unabated acts of state terrorism, martyred 95,917 innocent Kashmiris including 7,215 in custody, widowed 22,939, orphaned 107, 855 and molested 11,245 women since January 1989. Illegally detained Chairman of APHC, Masarrat Aalam Butt has paid rich tribute to the martyrs of Gaw Kadal, Srinagar and appealed to the people to organize congregational prayer meetings on the auspicious occasion of Friday prayers, register peaceful protests against the genocide of innocent people, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, custodial disappearances, change of demography and imposition of Hindutva ideology by Indian occupation forces in the territory.

APHC leader has also denounced the onslaught on the freedom of press and journalism by Indian fascist regime and said that the electronic and the print media in Kashmir was already reeling under the worst censorship especially for the popular voice of the people for their legitimate demand and inalienable right to self-determination.

Expressing his extreme concern over the forcible closure of the Press Club of Kashmir by the Indian occupation regime, APHC Chairman ridiculed the draconian move and said that India is virtually emerging as the worst dictatorial country against its so-called claim of being the largest democracy in the world. UN should take serious measures to implement its resolutions on the Kashmir dispute and stop genocide, arbitrary arrests, extrajudicial killings and the human rights abuses by Indian troops in the nook and corner of the occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
