India- A dangerous place for minorities

Qaisar Mansoor

Reports of lynching and physical bashing of unarmed Muslims by armed and organized RSS extremists have become a usual routine in India and IIOJK. They are subjected to extreme oppression and tyranny at the hands of Indian authorities.

Religious freedom in India has deteriorated swiftly with the BJP coming into power under Modi’s leadership.

Even, President Ulema Hind, Mahmood Madni has written letter to Amit Shah for minorities and HR watch drawing attention towards HR violations in Assam. International rights bodies must come forward to save the Kashmiri Muslims and other suppressed communities from Hindu fascism.

Actually, India has become a dangerous place for minorities, especially Muslims. Such is Hindu nationalism, that neither their homes nor schools and worship places are safe.

In the latest incident, the Muslims are being targeted in Indian State of Assam where a brutal eviction drive against Muslim residents has been launched.

A video also went viral showing killing of an armed man by the police and the desecration of his mortal remains by the individuals embedded with the security forces, which is really shocking and beyond belief. Under Modi regime one has seen many such violent incidents against Muslims.

Just last year the Muslims in New Delhi were stigmatized and blamed for the spread of Covid-19, which resulted in increased attacks on them. Scores of Muslims were killed in those attacks.

The Indian security forces are either themselves involved in perpetrating brutalities against Muslims with impunity or provide protection to the ‘Hindutva’ extremists and terrorists who regularly indulge in lynching and other forms of torture against Muslims.

The Indian Muslims are also being robbed of their citizenship through legislation such as Citizenship Amendment Act.

As also stated by Prime Minister Imran Khan in his address to the UN General Assembly, the worst and most pervasive form of Islamophobia now rules India. Shocking is the silence of the international community.

In fact had such sort of oppression taken place with minorities in any Muslim country, the whole world would have come together not only in condemnation but also held it accountable through steps such as sanctions.

However, the very transgressions on the part of Modi government are totally being overlooked out of political and economic expediency.
