India army launches CASO in Kupwara, makes dubious claims

Srinagar: Indian army launched a cordon and search operation in Kupwara district, today.

The operation was launched in Lolab area of the district. The troops associated with Indian army’s 28 Rashtriya Rifles deployed in Lolab took part in the operation.

Interestingly, an army spokesman claimed that “A specific input from a reliable source with respect to an old hideout and presence of some arms and ammunition in the general area of Kangur Nala, Tekipora was received by RR Sector deployed in Charkut, Lolab.”

However, he admitted that “the search did not yield any result despite thoroughly combing”.

Later, the spokesman changed his statement, apparently to hide embarrassment and said, “Additional columns of RR under the CO and special forces were inducted in early hours of June 7. The area was again combed from Kowut Top astride Kangur Nala. Thorough search and perseverance resulted in busting of a hideout astride Kangur Nala”.

He also claimed to have recovered some arms and ammunition, but locals were not ready to lend credence to the Indian army’s claim.
