New Delhi: Senior BJP leader and vice-president of Udupi Government Pre-University College Development Committee Yashpal Suvarna called the girls who approached the Karnataka high court to challenge the hijab ban on college campuses as “anti-nationals” who are “members of a terrorist organisation”.
The court dismissed the petition filed by the girls, saying hijab (headscarf) is not an essential religious practice of Islam and the imposition of uniform is a reasonable restriction.
Suvarna, the national general secretary of the BJP OBC Morcha, said in Udupi, “The girls have proved once again that they are not students but members of a terrorist organisation. By giving a statement against the high court verdict, they are disregarding the learned judges. Their media statement amounts to contempt of court.”
“What should we expect from them for the country when these students call the verdict given by learned judges as politically motivated and against the law? They have only proved that they are anti-nationals,” Suvarna said.
While the girls have challenged the high court’s order before the Supreme Court, Suvarna expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will deliver a verdict that will be “good for the entire country”.
To ‘protest’ against girls who were wearing a hijab to schools, some Hindu students started wearing saffron scarves.
