Male: India has signed a secret agreement with Maldives government to spread its influence in the Island. According to experts this agreement is detrimental to Maldives sovereignty and independence. The opposition leaders in Maldives have said that the ruling Maldives democratic party is selling off Maldives to India for economic benefits.
They have alleged that the incumbent government in Male is Indian puppet and Mr Nasheed is paying off to India for her support during exile.
They said that Maldives government efforts to settle 20,000 Indian agents is a step to transform Maldives into Indian colony. They further stated that opening of consulate in Addu Island is to give ground for future Indian designs in Maldives. Indian stationing of reconnaissance aircraft, military choppers and personnel on Maldivian soil is converting the country into Indian army base.
It is pertinent to mention here that Modi led BJP government is following a policy of interference in small neighbours internal matters.
They demanded the Maldives government to withdraw from the pact and take the entire nation into confidence over Indian presence in the region. Web Desk
