India: Undressed Dalit youth in Sitapur, UP, ran three kilometers

Uttar Pradesh: India’s Dalit community, referred to as “the untouchables” have faced systemic persecution by so-called upper-caste Hindus for ages.

Recently, a Dalit youth from Sitapur came to Dobha village to meet his relatives was assaulted, tortured and forcibly undressed by Babang Sundarlal and his companions. He was forced to walk back home three km, naked and barefooted. Babang Sundralal also captured the shameful incident in the video. Irrespective of the fact, India has introduced PCR Act, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, India has failed to protect minorities from abuses.

It is said that a resident of a village in Manpur police station area had come to Dobha village in relation. When the young man started going home after meeting relatives, Dabang Sundarlal alias Satyam and his companions of Dobha village were found at one end of the village. Seeing the young man coming from outside alone, he stopped and started asking questions. Anticipating theft, the young man was taken to a hut by Dabang Sundarlal, where the Dalit youth was assaulted, tortured and forcibly removed all the clothes of the youth one by one amidst abusive words. After being stripped, he was also run barefoot for three km. The shameful incident did not end here.

Dabang also made a video of the inhuman incident. Somehow, hiding and hiding, the young man reached his house. The family members were shocked to see the condition of the young man. Amidst the chaos, the young man was dressed. The police got information about the incident around midnight on Sunday.

After that there was a stir. In the night itself, Superintendent of Police RP Singh reached the village of the victim’s side and inquired about the entire incident. Later, the accused Sunderlal alias Satyam was arrested while registering a case against the accused under several other serious sections including SC-ST Act.
