Indian Air Force officer arrested for leaking classified data about defence installations

New Delhi: An Indian Air Force (IAF) Sergeant was arrested in Delhi on May 6, for allegedly leaking classified information about defence installations and service personnel to a foreign country.

The matter came to light when IAF authorities lodged a complaint at Crime Branch, stating that Sgt Devendra Kumar Sharma, working as administrative assistant (GD) at the Air Force Record Office in Delhi’s Subroto Park had leaked sensitive information about defence installations and Air Force personnel through the electronic means to a foreign agent.

Sharma had deceitfully obtained the information and documents from computers and filed, the complaint stated. He had also received money from the foreign agent for the leaked information.

A case was registered under the Official Secrets Act. During the course of the investigation, incriminating evidence such as electronic gadgets and documents were seized and the accused was arrested in the case. Further investigation is underway. India Today
