India’s name tarnished because of Article 370 abrogation: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she was not aware of the subject of the Jammu & Kashmir all-party meeting which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A crucial meeting, reportedly on the future political course of action in Jammu and Kashmir, convened by PM Modi in New Delhi with the attendance of 14 leaders, including four former chief ministers.

Amid reports that the meeting might also see discussions on statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said, “I don’t know what was the reason for removing the statehood in the first place. Country’s name was tarnished globally due to that move.”

“Anyone who questions BJP is anti-national,” she added.

Mamata Banerjee also hit out at the BJP over the farm laws and said that farmers’ demand for the revocation of the three laws is “absolutely correct”.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding an all-party meeting to discuss the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the future course of action for the union territory. Fourteen political leaders from J&K are attending this meeting at the prime minister’s residence.

This is the first such political exercise since August 5, 2019 when the Centre decided to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution that gave Jammu and Kashmir special status.

Besides the prime minister, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval attended the meeting.

The four former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir who attended the meeting are Farooq Abdullah, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti.

With no agenda announced for the meeting, the leaders from Jammu and Kashmir said they have come with an open mind. India Today
