International Gandhara conference set to take place in Islamabad from July 11

ISLAMABAD: A 3-day Gandhara Symposium 2023 is going to be organized in Islamabad from 11-13th July 2023. The event will bring together scholars, researchers, practitioners and experts in the area to open dialogue on intercultural collaboration, the potential that the rich ruins and history of Gandhara holds, the pros of promoting and reviving the Gandhara heritage and enhance the understanding of Buddhism in religious tourism.

The conference aims at raising global awareness about the historic and cultural significant of Gandhara civilization and Buddhist Heritage in Pakistan; discussing the strategies and best practices for the preservation, conservation, and restoration of Gandhara  sites, artifacts and Buddhist relics; developing sustainable tourism initiatives centered around Gandhara Civilization and Buddhist Heritage; highlighting the role of culture diplomacy in strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations; fostering peaceful coexistence, and promoting intercultural dialogue.

The objective of the conference is to promote and preserve the rich historical and cultural Buddhist Heritage in Pakistan, by leveraging the power of cultural diplomacy, the conference further aims to strengthen international relationships, foster mutual understanding, and enhance cultural exchange. Pakistan has been cradle of Buddhist art and culture and the second holy land of Buddhism for well over a thousand years.

The religious faith has marked the most significant epoch in the history of the cultural and social evolution in the subcontinent. The founding generations of Pakistani historians established a new historical relationship between Buddhists and Muslims which was based on peace and religious tolerance.

The creative articulations of historians provided Pakistani state the intellectual foundations for cultural diplomacy with the Buddhist countries of the world, which needs to be reaffirmed today to burnish Pakistan’s international image.
