Khalilzad renews US support to Afghan peace process

Kabul: The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Haneef Atmar, has held a VTC meeting with the US State Department’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Mr. Zalmay Khalilzad, according to a statement on Friday.

During the meeting, which was attended by the US Charge d’Affairs in Kabul Mr. Ross Wilson, the two sides exchanged views on the latest developments and challenges regarding the ongoing peace negotiations in Doha.

They discussed strengthening the international community’s support for the second round of peace talks between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban, and continuing the joint efforts between Kabul and Washinton for the success of the peace process.

Mr. Atmar praised the Afghan-US joint efforts for finding a peaceful solution to the conflict in Afghanistan and emphasized the importance of mobilizing international support and regional consensus around the peace process.
