Maldivians will not cower away from fighting for independence: Umar Naseer

Male: Ex-Home Minister Umar Naseer has stated that Maldivians are people who will not cower away from making any magnitude of a sacrifice for its independence.

Speaking at a special function hosted by Dhivehi National Action (DNA) on the occasions of this year’s Victory Day – Umar said that Maldivians are brave people.

On this note – he said that Maldivians will not cower away at the slightest from making sacrifices for their nation’s independence. He also stressed that no parties should

“Our Maldivians are fighters. Every time a group stands up against their independence – a fraction of Maldivians become martyrs,” he had said.

Umar also cited remarks made to him by the former Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Alikesh Mishra regarding the bravery of Maldivian people.

“Alikesh did also say the Maldivians are people who fight for their independence. That it is a fact that they knew. Something I want to underscore today on this note is that I hope all political figures from Alikesh’s country are aware of this fact,” he had said.

Speaking further – Umar highlighted how the events had unfolded during the coup d’état of November 3. In this regard, he said that there were matters that raised confusion amongst the younger generation regarding the coup.

He detailed that statistically – it is grievously dangerous when a trained and armed group of people who are ready for war attacks a country. That it is not by any means easy to defend against such attacks.en.sun.mv
