May 10 reminds painful story of destruction of Sheikh Noorud Din Wali’s shrine in Indian Occupied Kashmir

Srinagar: Today is May 10, which reminds the painful story of destruction of Jammu and Kashmir’s centuries’ old shrine of famous religious scholar, Sheikh Noorud Din Wali (RA) at Charar-e-Sharif in Budgam at the hands of Indian occupation troops, 27 years ago.

On 10 May 1995, Indian Armed forces desecrated and destroyed 14th century Muslim shrine of Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Wali, a patron saint of Kashmir in the city of Charar-e-Sharief. The destruction of the Charar-e-Sharief mosque and shrine came just hours after the end of Eid.

Desecration and damage caused to the mosque and shrines during so-called ‘cordon-and-search operation’ and repeated incidence of extra-judicial killings in various places in IIOJK are manifestations of the unabated state-terrorism to which Kashmiris are subjected in the occupied territory. This inhuman conduct of Indian forces is reflective of their moral bankruptcy as well as the prevalent culture of impunity in IIOJK.

Targeting the faith and cultural identity of the people of occupied territory is a clear violation of basic human norms and fundamental precepts of international law. History is witnessed to the fact that the use of brutal and indiscriminate force against Kashmiris and targeting their religious places will not break their will.

Political analysts and experts in IIOJK have said that Indian troops are applying every brutal method to suppress the Kashmiris’ freedom sentiment and hurt their religious sentiments to punish them for demanding freedom from India. They pointed out that Hindutva forces have planned to destroy Islamic centres in IIOJK.

PM Modi intends to replicate episodes like Babri Masjid in entire India and particularly in IIOJK. Modi brigade has announced to bring back a pre-Islamic era and impose Hindu culture in the occupied territory. BJP and RSS leaders have openly said that fifty thousand temples will be built in Kashmir. Web Desk
