Members of the Royal Family pay personal tributes to Prince Philip in new documentary

London: When Prince Philip died in April, several members of the royal family paid tribute to him either in interviews or with written statements. And now, the royals will appear en masse in a BBC documentary to share their “personal thoughts and reflections” on the Duke of Edinburgh’s life and legacy.

The program Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers will air on Wednesday, September 22, in the UK on BBC One, with the broadcaster saying it will feature “more than a dozen members” of the royal family. The Queen and Philip’s four children will take part as will their adult grandchildren, the BBC said in a statement today.

Despite Prince Harry’s criticism of, and fallouts with, his family, he has always spoken highly of his grandfather, and Town & Country understands that he will appear in the program. The Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex will not make appearances, T&C understands. The program was originally intended to be shown for Philip’s 100th birthday in June and, as such, some of the interviews were filmed before his death. Other tributes have been filmed since he passed away on April 9, 2021, at the age of 99.

“The documentary-makers have been inside Buckingham Palace to meet the Duke’s long-serving staff and to capture his study, private office and library, exactly as they were during his seven decades at the heart of royal life,” the BBC said in a statement about the program today. “There are poignant recollections, plenty of humour and numerous fresh insights into the character and legacy of this royal pioneer.” The documentary makers have also been given access to the the Queen’s private collection of historic footage of the royal family.

The BBC has been granted interview access to members of the royal family over the years for documentaries. In 2018, the Queen even sat down for the broadcaster to share her memories of her coronation and her thoughts on some of the Crown Jewels.

Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers airs Wednesday September 22 at 9 p.m. on BBC One. It is not yet known when or how it will be shown in the U.S. Townandcountrymag.com
