Muslim woman abducted, accused threatens, sends pictures to family in UP India

Uttar Pradesh: A Muslim woman was allegedly abducted from Etwa in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar on April 25. Reports said she was kidnapped by Birendra Kumar when she went to the fields nearby her home during Ramzan Sehri.

The accused, Kumar, is sending the victim’s picture with a fractured leg to the family and threatening them against lodging an FIR. Reports said the accused also told the family not to inform the villagers about the incident. After around 20 days, her whereabouts have not been traced yet by the police.

Two days after the incident took place, the victim sent text messages in Urdu and asked her family to rescue her. The family has alleged police negligence in the case and informed that it took them 10 days to register the FIR after the superintendent of police’s intervention.

According to the police, a probe has been ordered and the officials are tracking the Facebook ID from which the messages were sent. A case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 366 (kidnapping, abduction or inducing woman to compel her to marry) and 506 (criminal intimidation) has also been registered.

The incident was shared by a journalist Alishan Jafri on Twitter.

Reports also said the victim had earlier eloped with the man when he was a minor and both of them were caught at the Nepal border. Back then, the family had not filed an FIR out of shame and handled the matter without the police.

A similar incident took place last month wherein a Muslim girl who married a Hindu man was abducted. As per reports, the two eloped to Delhi last year and got married at the Arya Samaj Temple. The accused persons were arrested by the Ahmedabad police.
