No one can express views freely in India under Modi

New Delhi: In a move to further stifle freedom of expression in India under Narendra Modi, Delhi Police registered 25 cases and arrested as many people for allegedly pasting posters critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in connection with the vaccination drive against Covid-19.

The posters reading: “Modi ji humare bachon ki vaccine videsh kyu bhej di (PM why did you send vaccines of our children abroad?)” were plastered in several parts of the city.

Police registered 25 cases under sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections.

A senior police officer said, “More FIRs are likely to be registered if further complaints are received in this regard. As of now, investigation is underway to ascertain on whose behalf these posters were being put up at various places across the city and accordingly further action will be taken.”

Meanwhile, National Investigation Agency carried out searches at four locations in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai in connection with a case relating to incriminating Facebook posts by extremist groups ISIS and Hizb-ul-Tahrir, an official said. The case pertains to uploading some posts on Facebook by a Madurai resident, who was arrested in December last year, he said.
