OIC special envoy vows to support ‘just struggle’ of Kashmiris

Islamabad: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) special envoy for Jammu and Kashmir, Ambassador Yousef Aldobeay has said the body would continue to support the ‘just struggle’ for self-determination by the Kashimiri people.

During his stay in Pakistan, Aldobeay, held talks with PM Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Qureshi & Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood apart from holding meetings with political leadership of Kashmir as well as leaders of All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

The delegation also met President AJK Barrister Sultan Mehmood. His discussions with Pakistani leadership encompassed peace and security, human rights, humanitarian and legal aspects of the grave situation in the IIOJK.

He has assured his support for the Kashmiris struggle for self-determination. He also reaffirmed OIC’s support and expressed complete solidarity with Kashmiri people. He expressed hope that Foreign Ministers’ meeting in March 2022 would lead to fruitful results. Rejection of idea that freedom movement in IIOJK is linked to terrorism and acknowledgment by rest of the world that India is no longer as secular, is a big conversion and OIC need to build on this.

Kashmir has been divided between Pakistan and neighboring India since their independence from British rule in 1947. Both countries claim Kashmir in its entirety and have fought three wars over it.

Instituted at the 14th OIC Summit in Makkah in 2019, the special envoy on Jammu and Kashmir has played “an important leadership role in steering the organization’s principled position on this issue,” Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement last week, saying the latest visit will “reinforce the centrality of a just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute to lasting peace in South Asia.” Web Desk
