Pakistan Army committed to play role for peace under UN banner: Gen Qamar Bajwa

Rawalpindi: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has emphasised that the Pakistan Army is committed to play its part in establishing peace under the United Nations (UN) banner, saying “we have rendered numerous sacrifices for the noble cause”, the military said.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief met Commander of the Terrestrial Army Congo Lieutenant General Sikabwe Asinda Fall at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

During the meeting, the statement said, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation and scope of military cooperation to include defence, training and security between the two countries were discussed.

The COAS said that Pakistan views Congo as a key country in the African continent. “We appreciate Congo’s role towards regional peace.”

The ISPR said that the visiting dignitary lauded the professionalism of Pakistan armed forces and their role in UN peacekeeping operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He also vowed to enhance cooperation in various fields between the two militaries.

In October, the Pakistan Army extended its best wishes to the United Nations on the organisation’s 76th anniversary.

In a tweet, the Director-General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) quoted General Qamar as saying: “[The] Pakistan Army has distinguished history of serving humanity for peace.”

He had said that sacrifices by army personnel bore testament to “our unwavering resolve for global peace in line with our Founding Father’s vision”.

Decades after the creation of the United Nations, Pakistan continues to serve on the frontline of peacekeeping missions in the most troubled regions of the world, helping the global body maintain stability and peace. ISPR
