Sikh activists hold protest against anti-Muslim demolition drives in parts of India

Srinagar: Various Sikh activists staged a protest in Srinagar against the demolition drive launched against Muslims in New Delhi’s Janagirpuri and several other parts of India.

Angad Singh Khalsa, flanked by several Sikh and other activists, talking to media said the community stands with the Muslims whose houses were demolished as a part of the hate campaign against the Muslim community.

“We do not understand the dual standard of the Indian government. On one side hate preachers, raising genocidal calls against Muslims, are roaming freely on the streets and, on the other, innocent Muslims are being punished for no crime,” the Sikh activist said.

He said that even if the genocidal preachers are booked, they are booked under soft laws and released in a short period of time. He said that such preachers are spreading hate throughout India.

“Such hate is promoted by the state and the emboldening of these voices has led to growing hate against the minorities. The demolition drives are a part of the growing Muslim hatred across India,” Angad said.

Calling it a dictatorship, he said Muslims, Sikhs, and other communities are being targeted for their religious identity. “After the Hijab ban, last week Sikh girls were barred from entering the college with Kripan,” he lamented.

He said that the Sikhs stand in solidarity with all those who lost their livelihood during the demolition drive.

Meanwhile, various student organizations, Sikh groups and civil society members gathered in Plaza Sector 17, Chandigarh, to register their protest against the demolition drives and violence against Muslims in Jahangirpuri Delhi. Web Desk
