New Delhi: The All-Party Sikh Coordination Committee demanded reservation of four seats for the community in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. Despite our meeting with the Delimitation Commission headed by Justice (Retd) Ranjana Desal, no reservation has been prescribed for Sikhs, even though we had sought it in the meeting, and also in the memorandum submitted to the Commission, APSCC It was mentioned. Raina said that the commission’s cold attitude means that the Sikh minorities will not be given basic rights in the upcoming delimitation of assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that we demand reservation of four seats for Sikhs in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
The Chairman of APSCC said that in the past all the governments of J&K have deliberately ignored the basic issues of the community. The issues have piled up due to no solution and we fail to understand the measuring rods used by the people to measure or understand the problems of the Sikhs of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that we have been neglected and discriminated against even in the new set of Union Territories.
Despite repeated promises, he said, minority status has not been given to the Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir. Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been praising the historic contribution of Sikhs to the country, he never tried to understand the issues faced by the minorities, the APSCC president alleged.
