Somnadh temple built on Buddhist site: study

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar and Archaeological Department has revealed in an investigation that there are three historical structures beneath the Somnadh temple in Gujarat.

In a 32-pages report by Archaeological Department, it is stated that there is an “L – shaped structure” beneath the Somnadh temple. The investigation was conducted by experts using the latest Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) technologies and machines. The report has been handed over to the temple trust.

The study has revealed a 3-story structure below the ground in the area. The different levels of the structure are at the depth of 2.5 meters, 5 meters and 7.3 meters from the ground level. A second structure also has need detected below the ground at the location where the security check point for the visitors of the temple is located.

It revealed that there are Buddhist caves beneath the areas surrounding the Statue of Unity which is located at a distance from Digvijay Dwar of the temple. Dr Ambedkar in his book, “Revolution and Counter Revolution in Ancient India” said, the history of India is nothing but a history of mortal conflict between Buhdism and Brahmanism.

Historians believe that most Hindu temples in India have been built on Budhist places of worship. In Ayodhya, Indian Supreme Court verdict against Babari masjid is evident of Hindu fascist government. If same happens with the Muslim mosque, Godi media would make much fuss against Muslim but irony is that Godi media is reluctant to reveal the reality that Somnadh temple is built on ancient Budhist temple.
