Strike being observed today on the occasion of first martyrdom anniversary of Ashraf Sehrai

Srinagar: Posters have appeared, paying tributes to the martyred senior APHC leader, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai on his 1st martyrdom anniversary in Srinagar and several other parts of the valley.

Senior APHC leader and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir Chairman, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai who challenged India’s illegal hold over IIOJK for decades died in Indian captivity on May 05, 2021.

Modi regime is directly responsible for his custodial death, which once again proved that Modi regime is hell-bent on killing Kashmiri freedom leadership. Sehrai was not provided with any treatment in Udhampur jail despite suffering from multiple diseases.

The martyred leader was booked under draconian Public Safety Act, on July 12, 2020 and shifted to Udhampur Jail in Jammu. His condition deteriorated in jail and was not given timely access to doctor and died in a hospital in Jammu.

Ashraf Sehrai’s son, Junaid Sehrai also attained martyrdom while fighting Indian occupation in May, 2020

The posters displayed by different Hurriyat organizations gave the strike call for tomorrow on 5 May to express solidarity with the martyrs’ families.

The posters read that the unresolved Kashmir dispute is the biggest hurdle in peace and political stability in the region so the United Nations must take solid steps for peaceful settlement of the lingering Kashmir dispute. The posters urged people to unite for resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

Meanwhile, APHC leadership including its General Secretary Molvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani also strongly condemned the continued illegal detention of two sons of martyred APHC leader, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai. Molvi Bashir Irfani in a statement issued in Srinagar said, Kashmiris will continue to see martyr Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai as icon of resistance against Indian occupation. Sehrai, he added, will continue to live in the Kashmiris’ hearts for his sacrifices for the freedom cause.

Other Hurriyat leaders including Zamrooda Habib and APHCAJK chapter leader Shameem Shawl in a joint statement said that the death of Ashraf Sehrai would not be allowed to be forgotten and his mission would be accomplished at all costs.

The martyred leader Sehrai’s two sons namely, Mujahid Ashraf Sehrai and Rashid Ashraf Sehrai, were arrested by police from Bulbulbagh in Srinagar on May 15, 2021 Saturday evening.

Political experts and analysts termed the continued arrest of Mujahid Ashraf Sehrai and Rashid Ashraf Sehrai, and other relatives of Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai as political victimization. Web Desk
