Purchase of BrahMos missile is a suicidal deal

Qaisar Mansoor

Since long India is trying to project herself as a developed and technically sound country. They are spending billions of dollars to purchase latest defense equipment from USA, France, UK, Israel and Russia.

Meanwhile, also falsely claiming manufacturing ‘state of the art’ defense technology to attract smaller countries. Facts totally negate their “Made in India” claim. Their missile technology is full of flaws as is evident from a recent incident. A supersonic projectile, most probably BrahMos cruise missile, was test fired to Rajasthan Range.

Rather than hitting the target, it deviated 90 degrees and landed in the neighboring country. This incident should be an eye-opener for South East Asian countries who are planning to purchase BrahMos missile from India.

One can rightly call such deals “suicidal one” as the current incident shows that faulty missile can deviate from its course and can even destroy the host country. Rather than assuring defense, missiles like BrahMos have the ability to further deteriorate the situation.

Spending billions on defense equipment, which is totally not trust worthy and behaves like a mad dog, needs to be reviewed.

Recently, failure of the test of Indian supersonic missile, BrahMos, due to technical reasons and sheer blunders by its handlers could have triggered a war between Pakistan and India.

The Indian government’s confession that the missile was accidentally fired into an area of Pakistan, said that the failed test of the supersonic BrahMos missile, jointly developed by Russia and India, has raised many questions about its credibility.

It is understood that New Delhi is deliberately neglecting technical risks for the business purposes, and warned that purchase of the BrahMos missile by the South East Asian countries ignoring its technical efficiency could prove detrimental to the security of the region.

Pakistan’s National Security Adviser Dr. Moeed Yousaf said that foreign ministers at the OIC moot, too, had underscored the “threat to the region’s security due to India’s recent missile launch into Pakistan”.

“Make no mistake, India has become an irresponsible state with nuclear weapons and the world is beginning to recognise Pakistan’s longstanding concern on this count,” he said, adding that naturally, countries “reportedly looking to buy Indian missiles and other equipment are having second thoughts”.

Yusuf emphasised that the “missile ‘misfire’ from India must remain an issue of international concern”.

“Indian attempts to brush it off cannot mask the gravity of the episode,” he said, dubbing the “lack of Indian response to Pakistan’s call for joint investigation and lack of Indian information about India’s so-called internal inquiry” a “wakeup call” for the international community.

“This reflects the mindset of the [Narendra] Modi regime and the character of the Indian state today,” he added.

Yusuf further said that Pakistan would “continue to sensitise international opinion on the dangers of India’s nuclear programme and will continue efforts to ensure strategic stability while defeating aggression at all costs”.
