US refuses to sell India predator drones over human rights violations

India’s plan to acquire ‘most-lethal’ Predator armed drones from the US has reportedly been put on hold according to a report by Hindustan Times, quoting a top government official.

The mistrust and cracks in the relations between US and India during BJP’s government in India have increased significantly. In a fresh episode of slowly deteriorating relations between India and US, US has refused to sell 30 armed predator drones because of blatant human rights violations by BJP’s incumbent government in India.

The refusal came as a shock for India as it has been facing difficulty in handling volatile border situations with China, and the predator drones were of key importance for reconnaissance and surveillance. It is pertinent to mention that the predator drones were to be used across the services including the maritime realm to keep an eye on other frontiers.

The refusal is not a sudden development rather relations between the two states have slowly been deteriorating because of India’s blatant and unchecked human rights violations in IIOJK and mainland India. US State Department and Congress have already condemned the human rights violation in India, both in written and verbal forms.

With the ascendancy of Modi, India has continuously been facing issues externally and internally. Citizenship Amendment Act, revocation of Article 370, Farmers Protests, clashes with China, hostile border situation with Pakistan, killings of Dalits & Christians and Hijab row have all taken place under Modi’s rule. US being India’s main ally, seems abhorrent to this egregious violation of human rights by BJP-RSS nexus, and has refused to sell the predator drones. Web Desk
